Computers are like new homes or apartments; if you don't make good use of your space and resources they get filled with clutter as time goes by. In order to keep things running smooth, it is important to know how to make good use your computer’s resources.
Your computer has a limited amount of storage space, processing speed, and RAM memory. The more programs, documents, pictures, videos, music, and toolbars you have, the slower your computer will become.
Why Does It Happen?
Programs/software applications have a great effect on your computer resources and performance, especially those applications that start themselves automatically. Regular files like word documents, pictures, videos, and music files don't cause too much of a problem because they don't run constantly in the background. They only use system resources when you open them. The only problem that they represent is storage space so if you have a large amount of documents saved to your computer this can slow down the computer.
Solution
There are many solutions which can be done but here are some which you can easily do.
- Move all your documents from your computer to your "Z" drive, located under "My Computer"
- Close any unnecessary applications which are running. For example if you have Windows Live Messenger running this will slow your computer down! Contact us and we will remove it from your PC
- Try and keep as little Internet Explorer tabs open as possible. Each tab requires memory to run which will slow your computer down
- Your computer may need some TLC! If you contact IT Helpdesk we can assist you in optimizing your computer and make it faster.
Please note that general Internet Explorer speeds may not be solved by this. CMS speeds are a different issue so will not be improved by speeding your computer up.
